Cloud Native vs. 'Lift & Shift'

April 7, 2017

Cloud technology brings improved operations cost and economies of scale. However, not all approaches to the cloud are alike. Think of the cloud as a shoebox. The shoebox can hold either brand new factory fresh sneakers with the latest shock absorption technology or it can hold an used army boot from the 1940's. The brand new sneaker in cloud speak is Cloud Native. Petrichor Networks' software is Cloud Native software written from scratch to fully take advantage of cloud technology. An alternate approach is "Lift and Shift." This technique allows applications to be moved more quickly to the cloud, however it does not take advantage of cloud features and is more costly to operate. The pros of the Cloud Native approach are more efficient operations and lower cost. A Cloud Native approach also allows the user to takes full advantage of features of the cloud including automation of new resource deployment, elasticity of resources to grow and shrink with demand, virtualization and pooling of resources, and metering of usage. The downside of Cloud Native is the software with the functionality you want may not be available. Petrichor Networks' software takes advantage of cloud technology and has the functionality you need.
